A big part of having your own living space, whether it is an apartment, a dorm room, or a house, is that you will have to clean it. As college students, we do not have all the time in the world to dedicate to cleaning our living space. Still, living in a clean environment is important, so we need to find ways to clean without it taking up too much time. Here are some tips to help you speed clean your living space.
Buy Good Cleaning Supplies
If you want to successfully speed clean your living space, you need to you buy yourself the right cleaning supplies. When you have the right tools, you can do a better, faster cleaning job. Without these good supplies, the job will be harder. I would recommend you at least start by buying yourself tools such as an extendable duster, mop, broom, toilet brush, small vacuum cleaner (bonus points if it’s lightweight and easy to use!), a couple of sponges, disinfecting wipes, a pair of rubber gloves, a glass cleaning solution, countertop cleaning solution, wood cleaning solution (especially important if you have wooden furniture, as other cleaning solutions might not work as well on wood), and an all-purpose cleaning solution. Buying all these products might be expensive, but it is definitely worth it. When you have a good set of products, you will be able to clean your living space in no time!
Keep Your Supplies in Their Place
Now that you have your cleaning products, it is important to have a designated spot for them and keep them there. If you know that all your cleaning products are in one central location, you can easily grab them when it’s time to start cleaning. You will not need to waste time hunting around your apartment or house for your supplies because you will know exactly where they are! Keeping your supplies in a central location will save you time, and thus, speed up your cleaning process.
Have a Place for Everything
Going off the previous point, you should not only have a place for your cleaning supplies, but a place for each one of your things. The cleaning process will be much easier when everything, not just your tools, has a proper place. This will help you speed up your cleaning because you won’t have to try to pile yet another object into a crowded closet or bookshelf, because this object will already have its proper place somewhere else (where it won’t cause an avalanche of stuff to fall out of your closet). So, make sure you have a place for your things, as that will help speed up your cleaning process!
Create a Fun Cleaning Playlist
Cleaning is something that most people do not look forward to. However, it can be much less dreadful if you have your favorite music to dance to! Create a Spotify playlist of your favorite upbeat songs. You can dance to these songs as you clean, which will make the time go by faster. It could even become a fun dance party! Just be careful that you don’t get too carried away having fun that you forget about cleaning. Making a fun playlist to dance (oh, I mean… clean) to will make the time pass by much faster as you finish your cleaning process.
Start Cleaning in the Hardest Room
Have you heard the saying about “eating the frog first”? It’s a silly way of saying that you should complete your most dreaded task first. Once you get your most dreaded task out of the way, it will be easier to do the rest of the tasks. This principle can be applied to homework (for example, completing the homework assignment for the most difficult class first will make it easier for you to complete the rest of your assignments). It can also be applied to cleaning!
I would recommend that to speed up your cleaning process, you should start by cleaning the hardest room. For me, the hardest room to clean is the bathroom. I like to start with that room so that the rest of the cleaning process is smooth sailing.
Clean Daily
Finally, another simple way to speed up your cleaning process is to clean a little bit every day. It doesn’t even have to be anything major. For example, you can wipe down your kitchen countertops every day. This way, it will be relatively clean and you won’t have to deep clean it. Similarly, you can wash your dishes every day to prevent all the dirty dishes from piling up and attracting bugs. In other words, if you clean a little bit every day, you won’t have to “deep clean” as much or as often.
When you have your own living space, you become responsible for cleaning it. By following these tips, you will be able to easily (and speedily!) clean your living space.
